Teeth whitening

The color of teeth is caused by pigment particles that are not visible to the naked eye and are located in the enamel and the underlying dentin. Teeth whitening procedures induce the oxidation of these mentioned pigments, resulting in discoloration. Dental plaque and tartar adhering to the teeth often cause tooth discoloration, and sometimes a comprehensive oral hygiene treatment is sufficient to achieve the desired aesthetics. The whitening process always starts with tartar removal and tooth polishing.

The advantage of teeth whitening is that the color of teeth can improve by up to 7-8 shades. The use of substances in high concentrations (hydrogen peroxide or carbamide peroxide) requires expertise and supervision. After the removal of tartar and polishing, a protective layer is applied directly to the gums that come into contact with the teeth, followed by the application of the teeth whitening gel to the external surface of the teeth, which takes effect in 3×15-minute intervals.

Following the treatment, sensitivity of the teeth may occur, which will disappear within 1-2 days. To prevent tooth sensitivity, we recommend using a desensitizing gel after whitening. The teeth whitening process continues for a week after the procedure, during which time consumption of colored foods and drinks should be avoided. In all cases, teeth whitening should be performed before the preparation of dental fillings and crowns. Root canal treated teeth whitening is also possible under the conditions of the clinic.
